Google Cloud Now Offers Low-Cost Preemptible GPUs

Businesses using Google’s cloud computing services for resource hungry GPU processes can now avail of a lower cost option recently launched by the company. To sweeten the deal, the new feature, which was already launched as a beta version, is offered to companies at a significant discount. However, there is a catch—Google has the right to shut down any process anytime if it needs those resources.

Called preemptible GPUs, clients can now create GPU instances in the Google Cloud Platform using Nvidia chips. The company announced that these GPU processes are priced 50 percent lower than GPUs attached to on-demand instances, which could be big savings for clients and especially attractive for firms pressured to reel in operational expenses.

But of course, this 50 percent discount comes with a tradeoff. Google may, at any time, terminate these preemptible GPU instances if it needs these resources. As explained in by the tech giant, the compute engine will terminate them after giving a 30-second warning. In addition, Preemptible GPUs may only be used for a maximum of 24 hours.

Under the preemptible feature, clients will have access to Nvidia K80 and Nvidia P100 GPU at a much lower rate. The company will charge K80 usage at $ 0.22 per GPU hour while the P100 carries a $ 0.73 per hour rate.

With the preemptible option, Google is targeting clients running “distributed and fault-tolerant workloads,” especially processes that are dependent on a single instance.  Another advantage seen from this option is clients will know exactly how much they are going to pay compared to the currently unpredictable pricing models for on-demand services.

At the moment, Google announced that the preemptible GPU feature is now available in the US-central1 region. To check if the feature is already available in your region, click the link for the full list of locations.

Salesforce Offers New AI Features to Small Businesses

Most Corporations have the advantage of unlimited access to all the features a CRM (Customer Relationship Management) platform offers. Now small businesses can also enjoy this perk as well.

During Salesforce’s yearly Dreamforce conference, the company announced that one of their best performing CRM platforms – the Sales Cloud Lightning Essentials – will be available to all. With this, small businesses will enjoy the same access to features that large enterprises use to grow rapidly and work quicker and smarter. Small companies will also have access to Salesforce’s newest innovations, like Einstein AI, Lightning, and Trailhead.

Essentials Meet the Demands of Small Business

Salesforce knows that to be able to cope with the demands of today’s competitive marketplaces, businesses should be able to easily integrate new technology into their day-to-day operations. This need is underlined by the revelation that 66% of small company heads are handling two or more departments. Meanwhile, only 26% of small businesses have an in-house IT department while the rest either deal with contractors or try to work out IT problems on their own.

Salesforce Essentials can go a long way in easing this burden, as the platform was designed for simplicity and functionality. Small business analyst, Brent Leary, explained that small companies need guidance and a user-friendly platform, especially if they’re new to CRM. Essentials’ simple interface does meet that requirement, with the Trailhead feature providing the necessary assistance needed to develop leads faster and see results more quickly.

New AI Features Great for Small Business

The three key features added to the Sales Cloud Lightning Essentials will definitely make a difference to small businesses.

Trailhead is an interactive, online learning platform that assists users in its implementation. It also gives guidance on topics like how to implement innovation and raise business knowledge.

Meanwhile, Einstein is showing small businesses the practical aspects of artificial intelligence. In an interview, Salesforce’s Senior Product Director of Marketing, Eric Bernsley, explained that while most have a lot of questions about AI, they don’t want big, vague concepts. They want to see how AI can help businesses get more done.

Entrepreneurs and small business owners know that manually inputting data is time-consuming and leaves little time for a company to identify or pursue new opportunities. But with Einstein, basic sales activities can be automated or records kept up-to-date. It can also help with predictive lead scoring or look at areas connected to possible leads.

Since Essentials is built on Salesforce’s Lightning framework, small businesses will be able to enjoy a smooth transition of their workflow on any device due to the system’s intuitive design. And when Essentials is combined with other Salesforce Apps, small businesses can eventually manage their whole sales conversation – accounts, leads to contacts – on any device, whether from the office or out in the field.

More importantly, all of Essentials’ features are scalable, meaning they’re flexible and can meet the CRM needs of any company, regardless of the size. And since Essentials is also built on a global platform, upgrading can be done anytime, something that will be beneficial to small companies.

Amazon Prime Now Offers Business Shipping

Amazon has rolled out a new paid membership program for businesses in the United States and Germany, a clear indication that the company now has its sights on corporate customers.

The program, dubbed Business Prime Shipping, extends Amazon Prime’s free, two-day shipping features to everyone with an Amazon Business account and allows them to purchase office supplies. Some sectors will undoubtedly see this new program as a threat to office supply shops likes Office Depot and Staples, retailers like Walmart and stores like Costco, which specializes in warehouse deals.

According to Amazon’s press release, the pricing for the new membership model is determined by the number of users on the business account. The base price starts at $ 499 for a company with about 10 users and $ 1,299 for businesses with 100 users. The most expensive is $ 10,099 for companies with more than 100 users.

Once a company signs up for the program, all the employees or users will be notified through email about the benefits they are entitled to. New users added to current Amazon Business accounts will also be automatically enlisted in the program.

Greg Greeley, VP of Amazon Prime, said the company is excited to introduce the new shipping program and described it as combining the vast selection of products open to Amazon Business clients with the convenience and speed that Prime is famous for. He also assured customers that the company would keep innovating to ensure easier business purchasing.

Amazon Business was launched in the US in 2015 and was later introduced to countries like Germany and the United Kingdom. The service was recently expanded to include Japan and India.

Aside from the usual benefits offered to Prime subscribers, Amazon Business provides other features big businesses need, like being able to compare offers between sellers, exclusive pricing on more than 5 million items, bulk discounts, integration with 30 or more purchasing systems, and reporting and analytics.

Amazon did not reveal when the new shipping program will expand beyond Germany and the US.

Companies can also sign up to try out Amazon’s Business Prime Shipping for free for 30 days.

Whatsapp Now Offers Verified Business Accounts

WhatsApp is fine-tuning its chat services to make it more attractive for businesses. The company has started a new pilot program for verified business accounts, which seems to hint that it may be targeting the customer support segment of its business users with a new app that is reported to be still under development.

In a recent post, WhatsApp announced that is starting to verify the contact numbers of some business accounts. Users will know if a business’ contact number has already been verified by way of a green badge that appears next to the contact name.

In addition, users will also know if they are communicating with a verified WhatsApp business account. The messages from a verified business will appear yellow inside a chat. It was likewise announced that these messages cannot be deleted although the company did not explain the reason for this feature yet.

Industry watchers say that WhatsApp’s verification is the first step of a new strategy to make money by luring businesses into using the platform to communicate with their customers. According to Daily Mail, the green badges and the yellow colored text bubble from verified business accounts, are ways to make these businesses appear more trustworthy to their customers. It will also encourage businesses to use the app for its communications especially in customer support.

The latest move by the Facebook-owned company seems to agree with recent reports speculating that WhatsApp app  could be developing a standalone app specifically designed for businesses. In a Business Insider report, the company is said to be developing a separate app for use in customer support.

A code analysis by WABetaInfo, a site that has reliably predicted WhatsApps features in the past, the new app works on Android phones and may be used by companies to send automated customer support messages like FB’s Messenger. Moreover, WhatsApp  just posted a job opening for a technical position on what it refers to as “WhatsApp Business app for Android.”

Hootsuite Offers New Video Integrations For YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram

Video has become a major focal point of social media marketing as the major social networks continue to expand upon their video offerings.

Hootsuite announced new video integrations with YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to enable organizations to manage videos from one platform. A spokesperson for the company tells WebProNews the integrations will help businesses reduce complexity and increase reach across social channels to improve engagement with customers.

“Hootsuite integrations enable organizations to better manage their videos alongside other social media initiatives,” the spokesperson says. “From the Hootsuite platform, users can approve, schedule, and publish videos across social networks. The video integrations also allow users to monitor comments and collaborate securely as a team to manage multiple accounts so that they can respond faster to customers inquires.”

Users can share videos across multiple social networks, schedule them for the right time, respond to followers by monitoring comments (with the ability to approve, delete, and mark as spam), monitor competitors, industry trends, and other share-worthy videos, share access to YouTube channels across departments/teams, and manage videos from mobile devices.

CEO Ryan Holmes says, “Our new video integrations with YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram underscores how crucial video is to organizations as they evolve their digital transformation strategies. These integrations will better support our clients who are investing in video for broad appeal, promotion and education to really engage and grow their audience.”

The company will host a webinar on social video on May 3, when it will discuss why organizations should move to a “video-centric mindset” for their social strategy, effective ways to create and find engaging video, and how brands are already using video successfully.

More info on the new video integrations can be found here.
